Oh man, the joy of knowing I’ll be stepping foot on a new continent! In a week’s time I’ll be flying to Cartagena, Colombia, for my first trip to South America! I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve had Cartagena on my radar for many many years and I’m finally off to visit this amazing city! Plus, I’m absolutely thrilled to kick off my 2018 travels with Colombia, which was on my bucket list for this year.
Colombia is a big country and I’m only there 8 days, so obviously I won’t be covering a lot of ground. I’m flying into Cartagena and then I’m off to Baru island, on the Caribbean coast, because of course. I expect lots of lush greenery, iguanas, warm waters to swim in and I’m bringing plenty of novels to laze in the sun. I’m in desperate need of sunshine and from what I’ve been reading, the weather shouldn’t disappoint: temperatures in February average 28°C, and the Weather Network informs me that February usually sees about 1 mm of rain. I *think* I can live with that.
I’ll be spending a few days in Cartagena, just wandering the streets of this colonial city until I can’t feel my feet. I want to follow in the footsteps of Gabriel García Márquez, take in all the colorful houses’ façades and take breaks in quaint shaded parks. I couldn’t be more excited to visit Cartagena de Indias, finally! And I hope this trip will bring plenty of surprises ☆
